How to know you’ve mastered your craft?
Some times it’s just time in the game (i.e. ’20+ years’)
- and you realize it’s that moment to move beyond selling hours.
Some times it’s feeling bored delivering a commodity (i.e. ‘coaching’)
- especially when you know you’ve started doing it differently to everyone else.
Some times it’s the knowing that you don’t need another certification (i.e. ’trophies’)
- because the way you’re naturally delivering results is helping others transform.
There’s a threshold when your pattern recognition becomes your super power.
When the years of intersectionality across various domains starts to converge in your favor.
I’ve created a series of eccentric circles that might help to illustrate this:
(and thank you Tony Robbins for your great work around the Power of Patterns for validating this).
Basically:
Skill comprehension
You learn the tools.
“Hi, I’m a personal trainer.”
↓
Domain competency
You become very good at applying them.
“I help train people so they can operate at their peak.”
↓
Pattern recognition
You start seeing what others miss.
“This mind-body peak performance training helps you to add weight to unburden.”
↓
Pattern utilization
You deliberately turn those patterns into a repeatable method.
“I call this meta-fitness method influenced by martial arts, Weightlessness.”
↓
Pattern creation
You create a system, language, or methodology that becomes distinctly yours.
“The Weightlessness™ System focuses on four pillars of performance…begins with a somatic diagnostic…and works through a 100-day tribe format to….etc”
The people I work best with are usually already three rings deep.
They’re experienced practitioners with years of pattern recognition behind them — but much of their genius still lives in their heads.
My work is helping experts in the human potential, performance, and wellbeing game tighten those cycles:
from expertise → methodology → distinctive system.
Not to package another commodity in the sea of sameness - but to innovate your mastery so it’s ownable, sharable, and scalable.
So, where might you be in your cycles of mastery?
And, what’s emerging that needs to be realized?
