Stewardship Over Ownership

I love this simple organizing principle by Uta Hagen, legendary actor-turned-coach to Hollywood stars.

She gets at the same key shift I see when people who master a craft finally detach from being the teacher, guru, or expert - and make it about the people going through the transformation.

Everything in the orientation of the work then shifts.

We go from "designing my system" to designing the transformation.

Or "crafting the curriculum" to shaping the learning journey.

And turning "my expertise" into a lived experience that the participant can own for themselves.It is, in itself, a practice.

Because in order to acknowledge one's genius – then design, develop, and brand it – there is a need for "you" as creator to shine.

Then, paradoxically, fully owning and embodying the work for it to be transferable comes without attachment or need for validation.

Like all them good internal practices.

Focus on the Work: Concentrate on the purity of the craft and the truth of the delivery rather than how you look or feel doing it.

Erase the Ego: Drop your personal vanity, need for praise, or desire for fame.

Internal Dedication: Let the discipline live inside you as a personal standard of truth, not as a tool to project your own image.
